Deeper Still

The Deeper Still class delves into scripture, examining the meaning and intent of the original language within its cultural context to understand its application today. Scripture cannot mean to us what it did not mean to its original audience.

Is Your Child Ready for Baptism

0

Is your child ready to be baptized? Has your child made a clear confession of faith.

Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. It is an act of obedience symbolizing the believer’s faith in a crucified, buried, and risen Savior, the believer’s death to sin, the burial of the old life, and the resurrection to walk in newness of life in Christ Jesus. It is a testimony to the believer’s faith in the final resurrection of the dead. Being a church ordinance, it is prerequisite to the privileges of church membership and to the Lord’ Supper.

For more information contact the the Children’s Ministry Director or the Pastor. They would love to hear from you.

Church Council

Church Council meets on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

What is Church Council and What is it’s Purpose:

The Church Council gives guidance, support, and assistance to the Ministerial Staff to coordinate the work of the church to accomplish its mission of leading all people to be shaped by the love of Christ.  In addition, the Church Council enlists and nominates Church Officers and Trustees to the church for approval; assists the Ministerial Staff to enlist and nominate teachers and ministry leaders to the church for approval; enlists and nominates church members to fill vacancies to all standing and ad hoc church committees.

In all its meetings the Church Council represents the church and acts with the authority of the church on all matters except those needing to go before the church in a regularly or called business meeting.  Those matters needing to go before the church in a business meeting would include, but not be limited to: Approval of church members to serve on committees; approval of church members to serve as teachers, church officers, ministry leaders, etc.; buying or selling of property; major renovation or development of existing church property; major changes to existing written policies and procedures; calling or dismissing ministerial staff members; approval of an annual budget or spending plan or increases to an existing budget or spending plan; and conferring ordination on ministerial or deacon candidates.

The Church Council consists of a combination of church members chosen by their Life Groups who serve three year terms, church staff, committee chairpersons, and the Deacon Chairman.  Each Adult Life Group may elect one representative who will serve on the Church Council.  The Youth, Children, and Preschool Life Groups may select one representative from each of their areas.

Church Council meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:00 pm in Fellowship Hall.

The Baptist Standard

0

Do you know about The Baptist Standard and Common Call?  Founded in1888 as the Baptist News, the newspaper intended to unify Baptists across Texas so they could accomplish far more together than they ever could as individuals and congregations. Their strategy worked: Texas Baptists proliferated, and Baptist News, later renamed The Baptist Standard, became a leading newspaper for Baptists, not only in Texas, but across the globe.

The Baptist Standard and Common Call provide information relevant to the growth and welfare of Baptist people, support ministries conducted by Texas Baptists and cooperating churches and organizations, develop a fuller understanding of Baptist doctrines, encourage high moral standards and spiritual formation among all peoples, and help Christians fulfill their calling.

Did you know that our Pastor, Scott Jones, was chosen to be on the Board of Directors for The Baptist Standard?  Most recently one of his sermons was highlighted in the Baptist Preaching section.

Serving others in the name of Jesus

0

Serving others in the name of Jesus and reaching out to unbelievers so they may hear and respond to the good news of Jesus are important parts of a Christian’s life. First Baptist Rockport believes that God shapes us to be like Jesus through how we serve and reach others in Jesus’ name.

The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40

Regardless of anything else, two things are true: there are those around us who need to hear and respond to the good news of Jesus, and there are those who have needs that we can meet in the name of Jesus. This is the time to allow the light of Christ to shine forth through our lives into the darkness. Our ministers, deacons, Life Group leaders, ministry leaders, committee members, and more stive to serve our church and community.

Connecting with other Believers and Growing in Christlikeness

0

Connecting with other believers and growing in Christlikeness are essential aspects of a Christian’s life.

First Baptist Rockport believes that God shapes us to be more like Jesus through how we connect and grow as Christians.

It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.  –  Ephesians 4:11-16

God has not stopped shaping our lives to be more like Jesus or stopped using the body of Christ to accomplish His purposes. How is your life being shaped into the likeness of Christ? How are you connected with other believers for God’s purposes? Here are some ways you can connect and grow at First Baptist Rockport:

  1. Join a Life Group.
  2. Pastor Scott teaches the Wednesday night Bible Study in person and online, at 6 p.m. This can be viewed on the church’s YouTube page accessible through fbcrockport.net.
  3. Get your kids involved in youth or children’s ministry.
